Carlos Barrios Says
At least once a week I get someone who responds to my 2012 commentaries in a condescending and demeaning fashion saying all those people who believe the world will come to an end are obviously crazy. And one that I just received reminded me that Jesus would come flying out of the sky sometime in the future to redeem all Christians. Excuse me, but who's the one a few fries short of a happy meal here? Seriously, the TITLE of this web site should give one a clue- FINAL FANTASY ! Most often the word fantasy is used in a sexual context; however, it's also used as a highly imaginative story about characters, places, and events that, while sometimes believable, do not exist. In other words, I DO NOT THINK THE WORLD WILL END at 11:11pm, December 21, 2012 . I'm just doing all I can (so I think except when one considers some of the food I eat, the occasional cigar I smoke) to get TO 2012 ! That said, I do believe that we are facing several potential catastrophies (note the italicized- potential). In fact there seem to be so many that 2012 has all the earmarkings of a " perfect storm ". and tehrein, it is my hope that we get serious about understanding our planet, quit pretending we know it all, look into the mysteries that many ancient cultures spoke of, and increase our consciousness to a level where we can sustain a good live on planet E . The Mayans get most of the blame for the world-ending Dec. 21, 2012 date though that's our interpretation- not theirs. CARLOS BARRIOS is just one of those with whom I agree, and he has far more knowledge about the Mayan culture than I. Carlos was born into a Spanish family on El Altiplano, the highlands of Guatemala. His home is the dwelling place of the Maya Mam tribe. The Mam, with other Maya tribes, are tradition keepers. They are keepers of time, authorities on the remarkable calendars that are ancient, elegant and relevant. Further, Barrios is an historian, an anthropologist and investigator. Carlos is also an Ajq'ij, Mayan priest and while he sees 2012 as more than interesting, Carlos says that's not going to be the end of the world, just the end of the world as we know it. I believe Carlos is right! :-)
